So it’s come to my attention that oc roleplayers are not being treated with the same respect as canon roleplayers. They’re constantly pushed aside, ignored, and just overall never given a chance. As an oc roleplayer myself, I know how upsetting this can feel. Many oc roleplayers have deleted or have been moments away from deleting because of this. This is beyond appalling. Roleplayers, whether oc or canon, should be welcomed - not constantly pushed aside until they reach the deleting point. It’s because of this reason that I’ve decided to create an oc appreciation week.

This is my first time doing an appreciation week thing of any kind so I’m not too sure what I’m suppose to be doing for this but what I’ve done is gathered a few ideas on what you can do whenever you see an oc roleplayer. I’d highly suggest you do this for whatever oc you come across because the more ocs that get treated like they’re actually apart of the roleplay community then the better. We don’t want any more ocs having a horrible experience on tumblr and leaving because they’ve felt so unimportant. We need to show them that they are important and that they are amazing at what they’ve created.

Some of the ideas that I’ve gathered that you can do whenever you see an oc include:

  • Message them, whether on anon or not, asking them about their oc. It could be anything from asking where they got the idea from, why certain things happen in their story, what would happen to the muse if so and so happened - just anything that will get the mun to talk about the oc or even to develop their muse even more so.
  • COMPLIMENT THEM. Tell them what you like best about the oc. Seriously, even a small non anon/anon message telling them how much you adore their oc can mean the world to them.
  • Reply to their open starters. Just go through their open starter tag and reply to them. Reply to one or two or three or four - however many you want.
  • Tag them in random starters - again, it will mean the world to them and make them feel like they’re apart of the roleplay community. Although, better check their rules to see if they’re okay with it XD
  • Dude, even message them asking if they would like to roleplay. I can assure you 90% of the time they’ll say yes and just scream with joy because people asking them to roleplay (instead of them going to other people) is like a one in a million chance for them.

These are just a few examples, but overall doing anything that makes the oc roleplayer feel like they’re apart of the roleplay community, just do. Like I said, even the smallest compliment message can mean the world to them and spark their confidence levels up really high. Oc roleplayers deserve to be treated with this kind of respect, not constantly pushed aside like they’re not important.

Now, I was gonna give a time frame on when this oc appreciation week should take place but then I thought, stuff it. Oc roleplayer shouldn’t be treated like part of the roleplay community just one week a year or one week per month. They should be appreciated every day, of every month, of every year.
